Pacific American Foundationʻs Lōkahi Program at Ahuimanu Elementary offers both educational and social/ emotional support to all grades at least once a week.

Each class starts off with educational support; teachers assist with homework and give students the opportunity to ask questions and work with the teacher and peers to understand and grasp concepts learned.

After homework is completed, classes do various activities which give the students additional time to socialize and collaborate with peers. Students can do art, gardening, dance, play games and work on science and social studies projects.

Both students and parents enjoy the program and feel they get the educational support along with the socialization our students needed after returning from the pandemic. The teachers and staff also find they are able to see the academic and social growth of their students as the program progresses.

The Lōkahi program has been a critical part in reaching our school's vision, which is to create “a nurturing environment where students are educated and empowered to become productive members of society.” The program also gives families the opportunity to give back to the community.

Last year, our Lōkahi students and families went to Waikalua Loko Iʻa Fishpond and this year, we plan to go to Paepae o Heʻeia fishpond. Overall, the Lōkahi program has helped our students be successful academically and socially in and out of the classroom.

Recipe of the Month!
Vegan Korean Pancakes

Batter:

1.5 cups flour

4 tbsp corn starch

1.5 cups water

1 tsp salt

Combine ingredients in a large bowl

Vegetable Mix:

You can use any mix of vegetables, julienned, such as:

Zucchini

Sweet potato

Carrot

Onion

Green onion or scallions

Green pepper

Cabbage

Combine vegetables into batter and cook in a pan with oil until golden brown and crispy on both sides
