Voyaging Voyaging Waʻa Aloha Parents, Guardians, and Participants, This is a letter informing you of the opportunity to sail the Waʻa Kalua Moʻokiha o Piʻilani from Maui to Molokaʻi on July 27th and returning to July 28, 2024. This is an exciting opportunity to engage in a volunteer activity that supports the communities of Molokaʻi. This is not part of the NALU Studies program or part of any program by its fiscal sponsor organization, the Pacific American Foundation. This is purely a volunteer activity. . As we are sailing in the waters surrounding Maui, Molokaʻi, and Lanaʻi, there are some inherent risks you need to be aware of. I (or the minor under my guardianship) am (is) participating of my (his or her) own free will as a volunteer. I understand that non NALU Studies and PAF employee participants have not undergone background checks and other safeguards.By checking this box I acknowledge the below(Required) I understand and acknowledge that sailing on a voyaging canoe and spending the night on an open deck vessel involves inherent risks. Specific risks including but not limited to: a) Weather conditions (storms, high winds, rough seas) b) Seasickness and its potential effects (dehydration, disorientation) c) Risks associated with vessels at sea (capsizing, man overboard situations) d) Potential injuries including maiming and death from ship movement or equipment e) Dangers associated with vessels at sea f) Exposure to elements (sun, wind, salt water) g) Limited access to immediate medical care while at sea h) Sleeping accommodations are sparse, it will be sleeping on the deck of the canoe and I will need to bring my own bedroll/sleeping bag I voluntarily assume all such risks, both known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of any person involved.By checking this box I acknowledge the below(Required) I understand that I (or the minor under my guardianship) my spending the night on this open deck vessel without rooms for privacy and using restroom facilities provided at Kaunakakai State Pier, then returning from Molokaʻi to Maui.By checking this box I acknowledge the below(Required) I hereby confirm that I (or the minor under my guardianship) can swim in open ocean conditions and can tread water or float for a minimum of 15 minutes without the aid of flotation devices.Items that the participant should bring: a) Sleeping bag or bedroll b) Clothes that can get wet and a change of them c) Rain jacket for rain and sea spray d) Sweatshirt or sweater to keep warm e) Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, toothbrush f) Towel g) Waterproof bag to keep items dry, five gallon bucket with a lid works too h) Water bottle, water, energy bars, and snacks By signing below, I (or the minor under my guardianship) am (is) participating of my (his or her) own free will as a volunteer, not part of the NALU Studies or PAF programming, and I understand the risks mentioned above.Signature of participant(Required)Signature of parent/guardian(Required) Derek Esibill2024-07-26T12:26:11-10:00 Share This Story, Choose Your Platform!
